Weight reduction (1)
Reducing weight equals reduced displacement and thereby less propulsion resistance.

Weight saving is primarily of interest for passenger ships and ferries, where a 10% reduction in lightweight may save approximately 5% fuel.

Weight can be saved by:

  • Structural optimization analysis
  • Introduction of higher performance materials
  • Minimize corrosion susceptibility
  • Optimize piping & routing, use of GRP in ballast water systems
  • Weight optimized electrical systems and equipment
