The 2024 HIPER Symposium was held from the 10th to 12th June in at the majestic Kloster Drubeck in Germany. The conference focuses on all aspects of research and cutting-edge technologies that promise to drive the future of the shipping industry.
Future fuels, emission control, wind and hybrid propulsion, hull and propeller optimisation, digital twins, hull cleaning and smart operations, the three-day program was packed with promising and thought-provoking presentations from a healthy international mix of delegates representing owners, suppliers, consultants and academia.
Ken Goh from KNUD E. HANSEN presented a concept study for a fuel cell powered bulk carrier to show the many advantages such a vessel will bring. Although it will take many years for fuel cell technology to scale for mass utilization, there production and cost is trending at the same rate as solar panels and batteries had in the past two decades. The study demonstrates KNUD E. HANSEN’s innovation and commitment to a cleaner future.
