DANISH NAVAL ARCHITECT KNUD E. HANSEN HAS UNVEILED A VIRTUAL REALITY DESIGN VERIFICATION TOOL WHICH ALLOWS DESIGNERS, ENGINEERS AND KEY STAKEHOLDERS TO VALIDATE DESIGN IDEAS WHILE THEY’RE STILL ON THE DRAWING BOARD

Article from The Maritime Journal by Anne-Marie Causer

The ShipSpace product uses the latest VR technologies to enable users to walk around all areas of the vessel and get a better understanding of how spaces work, with a true sense of depth and scale, which is not possible with monitors or projectors.

Finn Wollesen Petersen, managing director, KNUD E. HANSEN, said, “ShipSpace is a cutting edge tool that our engineers and partners can use to design better ships, faster. KNUD E. HANSEN has been an innovator in ship design since 1937 and ShipSpace is another step forward for us.”

“ShipSpace has proven to be an excellent tool for communicating and developing designs and ideas, by enabling stakeholders to walk around the vessel while it is still on the drawing board,” added Robert J Spencer, head of simulation products at the company.

In other news, in preparation for its 80th birthday celebrations next year, KNUD E. HANSEN has announced a company logo change.

The new design, picturing the superstructure of a modern cruise ship within the lines of a traditional Viking longship, combines the company’s modern perspective on the world of ship design with its rich maritime heritage.

ShipSpace will be on display at this year’s SMM exhibition in Hamburg. Visit KNUD E. HANSEN on stand B1: EG 414 in the Pavilion of Denmark.
