KNUD E. HANSEN has developed a completely new technology. This technology – Virtual Reality (VR) Design Verification Tool – makes it possible to take customers on a virtual tour inside new ships before construction has even begun, or first steel is cut. The technology is being demonstrated right now at the SMM trade fair in Hamburg.
Ken Goh, the General Manager at KNUD E. HANSEN Australia, says, “We are very pleased with the new technology. It opens up new opportunities.
“We’ve just been visited by a captain to take over a ship which we have been in the process of designing for a few years. Using the new ShipSpacetm technology, we were able to let him visit the bridge, years before the ship is to be delivered.
“The captain could, for instance, immediately see that the distance between various systems was not optimal, and we could immediately adjust the design – long before the first screw was put in.”
At SMM, it will be possible for visitors to test the new technology, which will create a lot of attention for the company.
“ShipSpacetm is a cutting edge tool that our engineers and partners can use to design even better ships. KNUD E. HANSEN has been an innovator in ship design since 1937, and ShipSpacetm is another step forward for us,” says Finn Wollesen Petersen, adm. Director KNUD E. HANSEN.
