The vessels were ordered by Finnlines in 2018 and to be built at Jinling Shipyard, China. The vessels were based on modified versions of the existing Grimaldi Knud E. Hansen design. The vessels will include innovative features such as large lithium batteries ensuring zero emissions in port, and air lubrication system for reduced water resistance of the hull.
