The vessel was designed for Kloster Cruises, Norway, in the late 1960s. M/S Starward and two further sister ships were built by the former AG Weser yard in Germany. The vessels were named M/S Starward, M/S Skyward and M/S Southward. They were later converted and refurbished at Jacksonville, USA. In 2013 M/S Southward was retired but Starward and Skyward remain in commission with new Owners as the Orient Queen and Leisure World respectively.
